Courses in the History and Social Studies Education Department explore the past and uncover how those events shape the world we live in today. With an extensive catalog, majors are given the opportunity to study the history of diverse cultures and regions throughout the world from dedicated professors and lecturers, who continue to learn and conduct research.

The social studies education major is prepared for a curriculum that meets the educational requirements of the New York State Initial Certification in Adolescence Education, which is required to teach social studies in grades 7–12.

History majors are prepared for careers in business or government, and for graduate study in history or law. Social studies education majors are prepared to teach social studies, including history, in both middle and high schools.
