Pontecorvo's 1967 classic study of insurgency and counterinsurgency in French Algeria during the 1950s. This iconic film has been used for training purposes by Al Qaeda and ISIS as well as Western intelligence agencies. Most importantly, this film directly addresses the use of torture as an effective tool of counterterrorism. The film will be followed by a discussion by a panel of experts. A lecture on the film and its context will be posted prior to the film screening.
